Job Description

Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Psychology Registrar/Psychologist - Adult Psychologist (flexible 2- to 5- days per week roles). This role will focus on assessment and psychological interventions for general mental health and issues related to sexuality and gender identity in adults.

What we are looking for?

We are seeking a motivated and passionate psychologist to work in our adult services across our General Adult Mental Health and our Adult Gender and Sexology Clinic. This will provide opportunities to build competencies in general adult presentations as well as within the focus area of sexuality/gender psychology.

We provide clinical assessment and therapies for a range of issues including depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma &PTSD, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and personality disorders. We are guided by evidenced-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and EMDR.

We provide therapy for sexuality- and gender-diverse individuals that is respectful, culturally sensitive, and informed by the latest scientific and clinical developments in the field. This includes dealing with minority stressors related one's sexuality/gender status, as well as navigating milestones such as disclosing one's sexual/gender identity or dealing with internalised shame. In this service, we also undertake assessment and diagnosis of gender dysphoria, and provide evidence-based and respectful support for adults navigating their gender journey.

Adult Gender and Sexology Clinic also evidence-based therapies for a range of sexual problems, including treatment of sexual dysfunction, low desire, sex and pornography addiction, and compulsive or other sexual issues that are causing distress.

Registrar Program and Supervision

Our clinical psychology registrars are provided extensive supervision and training opportunities as part of their role. This includes weekly face-2-face supervision with senior clinical psychologists, who publish research on matters of sexuality and gender dysphoria (Dr James Morandini and Dr Georgia McClure), weekly case conferences, and weekly group supervision aimed at building basic competencies and knowledge in the area of gender dysphoria/sexuality.

Necessary skills and experience

Masters / Doctoral degree in Clinical or Developmental Psychology

Minimum commitment of 2 days (flexible hours/ days) with the flexibility to increase or work weekends

Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA with/without clinical endorsement, with eligibility for Medicare rebate ("soon to be registered" for those newly graduated is also fine).

A passion for and experience working with diverse populations in a culturally aware manner

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

A compassionate and empathetic approach to assessment and treatment delivery

Desirable criteria

Experience working with gender-diverse or sexual minority individuals

Interest in being involved in (and developing) clinical research related to gender dysphoria/sexual identity
