Dear SAS members,

We would like to invite you to our upcoming SAS Professional Development Session.

Date: 9th October 2023

Time: 6:00 PM SA Time

Topic: Trauma-Informed Practice

This session will delve into the essential principles of trauma-informed care and explore their practical applications across diverse settings, including education, medical, and psychological contexts. Understanding trauma-informed practice is crucial for providing effective, compassionate care to our clients and patients, and this session will equip you with the knowledge and insights needed to provide quality care to people you work with.

Presenter: Ella Shannon is an accredited clinical sexologist, and the National Chair of Society of Australian Sexologists. For the past 2 years she has been in private practice in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Prior to this Ella managed the Cairns Sexual Assault Service for a few years and earlier in her career was a Relationship Counsellor and Victims of Crime Counsellor with Relationships Australia.

These roles demanded a knowledge of the effects of trauma and a responsibility to work in a trauma informed way. This led Ella to study EMDR, a modality that supports the processing of traumatic experiences, and over the last few years Ella has been using a blend of Attachment theory and EMDR informed by Internal Family Systems in her work with individual clients.

RSVP Deadline: Please RSVP by September 20th, 2023, to secure your spot for this session. Kindly send your RSVP to Anisa Varasteh at anisa@relatesexology.com

Session Format: This event will take place online via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to you upon confirmation of your RSVP.

We look forward to seeing you all there.
