    About the role

    In this role, you will be responsible for delivering information, education, and training focused on reproductive and sexual health within the sector. This includes the scheduled delivery of educational programs, ensuring that these programs are effectively evaluated for their impact and outcomes. You will maintain statistical data on the education programs delivered, systematically recording client and customer feedback evaluations to inform continuous improvement.

    Additionally, you will contribute to the development of program content for education, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of stakeholders and aligns with organisational goals.

    Women's Sexual Health Promotion Officer

    Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services (NCHS) is committed to delivering a range of holistic and culturally appropriate health services to the Indigenous population of the Fitzroy Valley, amongst whom traditional law, language and cultural practices remain strong. Located in the remote heart of the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 400km from Broome, 260km from Derby and 290km from Halls Creek, we service 45 Indigenous communities scattered over an area of approximately 300km.

    KEY OBJECTIVE: To work collaboratively with the Nindilingarri Health Promotion team to provide an effective and culturally acceptable sexual health program, to increase health literacy and to encourage positive and respectful relationships amongst the residents of the Fitzroy Valley.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Contribute to, promote and adhere to the philosophy of NCHS;

    • Demonstrate and role model respectful relationships with elders, leaders, community members, parents and youth;

    • Improve the sexual health literacy of Aboriginal young people and encourage positive and respectful relationships through the delivery of a culturally sensitive, holistic, education program;

    • Work collaboratively with NCHS Health Promotion Team and partner organisations including WACHS and KPHU;

    • Produce and promote culturally sensitive resources for program delivery;

    • Visit outlying communities to deliver programs and conduct assessments;

    • Ensure program objectives are achieved and provide timely and accurate reporting within scheduled timeframes;

    • Foster local capacity building through identifying, training and supervising potential community sexual health workers;

    • Act in a manner which is responsive to the shared and individual cultural needs of the people living in the Fitzroy Valley;

    Ever wanted to make a positive difference as an LGBTQ+ person in your communities? Now is your chance!

    We want to build a diverse pool of facilitators to deliver ACON workshops as LGBTQ+ peers. We are looking for people with some knowledge about sexual, domestic and family violence, and who are comfortable discussing these topics. We particularly encourage people with connections to the following communities and populations to apply:

      • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
      • trans people of all genders,
      • fetish and kink communities
      • sporting communities
      • party communities (eg people who are actively involved in planning club or party events),
      • people from migrant, refugee and culturally, linguistically diverse communities
      • GBQ+ men (cis and trans),
      • and people from regional locations.

    We are on the lookout for some people to join the Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence team in the Health Equity and Harm Reduction Division to play a vital role in implementing our workshops.

    These roles will support the implementation of ACON’s LGBTQ+ Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence (SDFV) Program for sexuality and gender diverse communities aimed at preventing and reducing the impact of SDFV experienced by LGBTQ+ people in NSW.

    These are casual roles, where you will be offered shifts on an ad hoc basis (aka regular hours will not be offered). The workshop shifts offered will primarily be after business hours and weekends.

    What workshops you say?

    • ACON’s healthy relationship workshops are a 4-week (one night a week), NSW based program for any LGBTQ+ person who wants to learn about healthy relationships. The workshops provide a safe and respectful environment for LGBTQ+ community members of all genders to share their experiences, understand factors that contribute to healthy relationships and learn new skills to create healthier relationships with their loved ones. The weeks content is all linked to four main themes: 1. Respect and Values, 2. Communication and Boundary Setting, 3. Sex and Consent, and 4. Conflict Resolution.
    • ACON’s strengthening LGBTQ+ community responses to disclosures of sexual violence workshops are a full day and NSW based. The workshops are for any LGBTQ community and allies to upskill their knowledge and capacity to build healthy consent focused environments and learn how to confidently respond to disclosures of sexual violence. These workshops are designed to provide a safe space for people to learn and understand more about sexual violence in LGBTQ+ communities including how to prevent it and how to respond to it.

    SHINE SA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Counsellor to work in its Sexual Health Counselling team. This unique and interesting position involves working with people with sexual function concerns, relationship issues, gender identity concerns and respectful relationship challenges. The position will ideally suit someone who is experienced in sexual health counselling or who is willing to upskill rapidly. The general population seeking support includes people who identify as CALD, LGBTIQA+, and people with disabilities.   

    The position is likely to be based across both our Hyde Street and Woodville sites and may offer opportunities to work from home. The leadership team at SHINE SA is diverse and supportive.

    Within The Date-Ability Program, you will facilitate programs around healthy and safe relationships/social connections to small groups of people (NDIS participants), guide participants through games and assist when disclosures or moments of discomfort occur.

    The role also includes attendance at networking events and showcasing what we do when requested at various meetings and opportunities.

    The Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV) Program Officer (Youth) (50D) directly reports to the Sexual Health and BBV Program Coordinator and is accountable to the Executive Manager Public Health and Continuous Quality Improvement (PHCQI). This position is primarily responsible for coordinating an increase in testing and treatment in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Western Australia through education sessions, and Health Promotion messaging.

    The Sexual Health and BBV Program Officer (Youth) (50D) will facilitate a program aimed at delivering culturally appropriate education to Aboriginal communities, to increase health literacy and knowledge of STI and BBV prevention, and testing and treatment of STIs and BBVs.

    The program offers a holistic view of health involving Social and Emotional Wellbeing., Drug and Alcohol misuse, Healthy Relationships and other Sexual Health topics.
